| Something of a musical experiment.... |
[Nov. 4th, 2010|07:04 am] |
Wow. and the updates keep coming, so, what have we today? Well, another new track. However, it has a twist. first, download it, right here, and see if you can figure out what I did. So. any luck? well, here goes the explaination. This, is a mix of both midi, and nes sounds. Yes, real, proper, nes sounds, brought to you by emulation. Reaper was used to mix it all together, and to do the final render to disk, and soloing/muting of parts is controlled by reaper, not QWS. The most time-consuming process of this was loading up synths on each track for the midi file in reaper, then having it render these to audio, so that muting/soloing would work properly. The final fade, for ease, was done in sound forge, a long with the draft mix of this track which was posted to q-audio. The draft was quite literally just thrown together in the forge and put up as a preview of this. So, enjoy, and feedback/constructive critisism welcome, as always. |

| more stuff from me! |
[Nov. 2nd, 2010|01:04 am] |
That's right, this time, I present, the demos from my first arranger keyboard, the technics kn920. All were ripped using my dm-520, then encoded to ogg, as always. The keyboard came out in 1996, and, from mostly memory, as i can't seem to find any official specs anywhere.... It has 240 sounds in normal mode, 128 when you switch to gm mode. 11 drumkits, in a very weird, non-gm layout, and 8 kits in gm mode, immitating gs. 32, maybe, 64 note poly, and 120 styles to play with. So, all and all, a not bad keyboard. it also used floppies for storage, and had a 16-track sequencer. With that being said, I'm fading, so bed calls. good crash |

| The return, of someone, long forgotten? |
[Oct. 28th, 2010|07:08 am] |
Indeed, it is! After goodness knows how long, I bring you a non-show related update, and even those were getting rather sketchy at the best of times. So, your first question, no doubt is, what's been going on with me? well, find out in this post right here. Instead of having to write everything, I thought, why not? Recorded on the dm520 with the mic zoom set to zoom, which effectively means mono recording. Next, come with me on a virtual tour of my sister's place, where I'm currently staying while my parents are back in NZ for a few weeks, and I get to catch up with my nephew, mostly. scary times? Yeah, thought so. This was recorded, again, on the dm520, with my new, sound profeshinals binaural mics, that are mounted in headphones. very cool!
And now, not many non-show posts would be complete with out music, would they? So, have two new tracks done with the help of my latest ccreation, a re-doing of some of my favourite zel features, into the japanese-based text language, mml, for writing music. In naturally, midi files. First, have this rather typical arfy track, which literally sounds like what would happen if me from 2007 came forward a few years and was less, well, obsessive about certain things. No, seriously, it's using the old xg sounds and everything, and the track was pretty much entirely programmed in mml, aside from cutting and pasting in qws to form the repeats, and the transpose into the final section, which is a loop. it's actually a similar structure to freakyfwoof's song for kis. And finally, to round out this post-quake post, I'll leave you with just a thought. This one was more of a test of some features I was working on, which will be quite obvious when you here the peace. The other thing about these mixes is that they were all done, pretty much entirely in reaper, to be different. Since reaper can host vst's, and you can assign midi ports to each plugin, it was a snap to have reaper act as a drop-in vstHost replacement, including having a wave recorder, in reaper terminology, bounce to disk. from there, reaper is perfectly suited to post production, I.E., trimming, adding effects and all that good stuff. Hence, I found a nice preset for reaper's multiband compressor, applied in rendering, and, you have a bit of a warmer sound than usual.
Now, having said what I came to say, and starting to ramble, I'll now free up your friends pages, and I'm sure, leave you for more interesting things. but hey, it's only me, ya know? I'm off. click! |

wow. what a crazy show we have in store for you today. Want to here what it did? Well, let's just say, playing midi files on the wrong synth, new ninjams, and as I write this, we're just chilling here in the lounge, listening to tapes from the andre. Lots of fun, indeed. So, still want to here what it does? Well just here And now, with a rather odd rendition of masquerade, I now hit the enter, and... |

| Today's madness |

And, as part of the comeback, here's today's rather odd show. In many ways, a typical arfy snackbox, but, rather unique in it's presentation. Chill out as we talk about this, that, my trip, some more randomness, and finally, ending up where we almost always end up, showing off midi. watch out for the rather odd breakage in the middle of the show. With that, I'm off. |

| Who's this? Arfy writes! |
[May. 23rd, 2010|02:36 am] |
After nearly a month? no, probably over a month, I am finally back. The following was written while I was waiting in LA to leave the US, wait, US? yes, all will b explained, so, take it away, notepad.
wow. just, wow. So, I know, the burning question your all asking is, where am I? Where have i been? As many of you probably know, I've been in the US for a month. That's right, I took myself over here, no help at all, aside from people in the airports etc. And why? One word. Ana. I'm now sitting here in LA international airport as I write this. Trying, and failing to get onto some form of internet. ug, fine. fine, then. I'll just notepad this and post it later, either in sydney, or, more likely from home at some weird, funky hour of the morning on sunday. So, why now? Why wait to update? Mostly, lazyness. nothing more, nothing less. it was actuallly freakyfwoof's prompting and reminding me that this thing existed that did it. Honestly, I was going to update you earlier, but, as you can imagine, my mind was, well, elsewhere most of the time. But, nevermind. I can still say, hey, look. I posted from a completely different country/place that isn't NZ or ausie! cool.
Enough rambling. what went on, then, over the four weeks? Well, I'll just summarise here in writing, and I'll be posting lots of voicepost material as I edit it. No, no noooooo. This isn't going to be like my last attempts at this, back in the days of that, uh, other thing... oh, bad. bad times. The days when I'd write for no other reason than to splash something about rosie over the page... Yep, I'm done. Let's just say, that this time, was simply amazing. Nothing, huge, or earth-shattering happen, but, I learnt a lot about myself, made new friends, and all that. And, yes, I really do hope to stop neglecting this thing from now on. Unlike a lot of people, despite the fact I do have twitter, it isn't replacing lj in any way. Also, I now have a new toy to play with. A shiny, new, olympus DM520 voice recorder. A very nice, little machine. Also, I got a pair of binaural mics, embedded in a pair of sony headphones. Yes, expect the usual mic tests/etc and all that fun stuff we all love.
Well, with all that being said, I'll leave you now to keep tabbing/arrowing/scrolling through friends, who probably have better things to say than me. Ah well, life goes on. Be on the look out for, hopefully, the return of the larfy snack box at 5 Eastern on Saturday, and, voiceposts.

That's right, after last weeks show with andre doing the streaming, it was, once again, my turn to do a show. so, here's today's show. All I can say is, this was a peace of oddness. My suggestion? Just listen and enjoy what's on offer for this show. |

here i am, sittting here, after converting well over 100 fanfics. thought I'd sit down and write, just because i haven't done it in quite a while, and I've quite honestly forgotten when the last update was. Aside from talking to ana and reading, and listening to music, not much has been going on. this was just to let you all know I'm not dead, despite appearances. so now, I'll shove.off and let you get back to life. flop! |

I simply bring you today's show. More midi's, more people on teamtalk, including andrew this week, not to be confused with andre, who was also present, as usual. so, sit back, and join us for another fun filled week of madness and fun. and now, I listen to andre play keys, and let you get the show. |

| Another week, another dose of madness? |
[Oct. 18th, 2009|01:14 pm] |
That's the tag line for this week's show. Come with us as we rediscover old drum kits, and finally get some true sc drums into our soundfont, after loads, and loads, of tedious editing. But it was so, worth it in the end. Find out what it sounded like, along with other things, and off this planet drum solos from our very own freakyfwoof. We really enjoyed this weeks edition, and hope you enjoy it as much as we did. |
